The extensive history of Muscle Beach facilitates the recognition of major contributors to the venue through the presentation of an award in their name to current winning athletes.

Weider International will be sponsoring the Overall Men’s and Women’s Bodybuilding Awards at Muscle Beach Venice. What a great honor to have the Weider organization recognize the men and women bodybuilders who win the Overall Titles at the Muscle Beach Events. Joe Wheatley Productions would like to personally thank Joe and Betty Weider for their support of our endeavors at Muscle Beach.

What every sport needs is as champion! Not necessarily a competitor champion but someone who understands the sport, has endless energy to support the growth of the sport and who is there to envision the future of the sport. If you were a novice to the sport of bodybuilding, Rosemary took interest in helping new individuals learn about bodybuilding and in particular, figure.
Rosemary was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1940’s. Rosemary and fitness came together at a golden moment in time. The early 1990’s was the era of Muscle Media 2000. She went on all of the Muscle Media Cruises and there met and formed what proved to be lasting relationships with many of the greats of bodybuilding and fitness. She also attended several of the Weider Muscle Camps and Seminars at Loyola Marymount University. Rosemary became an avid writer and through her writing was able to contribute to the community of professionals in the area of sports and nutrition. She took part in the founding of the internet magazine Dolfine which was a huge success.
Rosemary in particular fell in love with the Muscle Beach Venice venue. She was integral in establishing the Figure competition at the events and made every effort to foster it’s growth and development.
Rosemary’s last Muscle Beach Figure Show was on Labor Day of 2003. Her unexpected death shortly afterward, was a great loss. Now only would her management of Dolzine be missed but her ongoing encouragement would be sorely lost. To honor her contribution, Joe Wheatley, the promoter at Muscle Beach Venice, created the Rosemary Vernon Award for the Overall Figure Winner. Through this award we recognize her vibrant spirit and her great contribution.
